MCCAMEY, TX (KWES) - McCamey ISD officials are in cleaning mode after a confirmed case of MRSA was reported on Monday afternoon.
Superintendent Janet Hunt tells NewsWest 9, a couple of high school football athletes had some rashes show up on their skin and one case of MRSA was confirmed.
MRSA is more commonly known as a staph infection.
School administrators say as soon as they got confirmation of the MRSA case, they decided to be proactive and cancel all classes.
We're told administrators have been working since 6 a.m. disinfecting everything on campus from furniture, sports equipment and school vehicles.
Administrators are asking parents to be mindful of anything abnormal on your child's skin and if you see something to check on it with your family doctor.
All McCamey ISD schools are expected to be open on Wednesday for school.
