A Greenwood convenience store was robbed early Monday morning by a masked gunman. For local business owners, crimes like this are far too common.
Just before 6 a.m. while a clerk was getting ready to open up the Greenwood Country Store, a masked gunman burst inside and demanded all the cash.
Neighbors told NewsWest 9 that crimes like this happen a lot and that the Greenwood Country Store was broken into several times before. While law enforcement hasn't caught the criminal responsible, local business owners have a pretty good idea that these thieves are coming from Midland.
"I think it's because we're kind of away from the town. By the time you get the officers over here, they had enough time to get away. So, basically, it's their time. They've got enough time to do what they've got to do and take off," said Gary Hignojos, owner of a business across the street from the Country Store.
But this time, it seems like the risks were greater than the payout for the criminal.
NewsWest 9 gave the Greenwood Country Store a call and asked them just how much money was stolen. They wouldn't give an exact number but they did say that it wasn't all that much and definitely not worth risking jail time over.
