Midland Man Arrested After Trying to Run From Odessa Police

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

A Midland man is behind bars after trying to run from Odessa Police.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, officers were called out to the 1000 block of North Dixie in reference to a subject refusing to leave and that the subject was a black male wearing an orange shirt.

When officers arrived, they found a male subject behind a business matching the suspect’s description.

Officers made contact with the subject who was later identified as Derrick Morris, 32, of Midland.

Police say as they were conducting a warrant check, Morris immediately fled the scene on foot in the west alley of the 1000 block of North Dixie.

Morris was later arrested after police found him hiding in a backyard.

Further investigation revealed that Morris had a first degree warrant for aggravated robbery.

Morris has been charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest or detention.

He is currently behind bars at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
