MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - It was a golf tournament for a cause Saturday at Hogan Park.
It was to benefit the scholarship fund in memory of Midlander Patrick Wayland.
He sustained injuries in a military training exercise from which he was unable to recover back in 2011.
A group of golfers who participated are a part of the Lone Star Warriors Outdoors.
They're an organization giving wounded warriors a different bonding experience when they're back home.
"I've heard their stories," said Chris Gill, President of Lone Star Warriors Outdoors. "When they get home, they're able to pick up the phone and call one of the guys that they played golf with or hunted with or rode four-wheelers with. So it gives them that bonding back and someone to talk to."
"It just helps us get out," said Lee Sage, a retired E-R Specialist. "We get to meet other guys that were wounded and just get us out, and this is like a sanctuary, so being on a golf course its really, really nice."
The tournament sold out quick.
