Grandmother, Mother Arrested After Infant Was Found Unconscious in Odessa

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Two people have been arrested in connection with an infant that was found unconscious in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, Rendi Lajaunie, 37, and Ember Lajaunie, 18, were arrested and charged with six counts of endangering a child.

Back on Tuesday, Odessa Police were called out to the 200 block of East 89th Street in reference to a deceased person which later turned into a medical call.

Officers were told that a one-month-old infant was not breathing and was unconscious.

According to the report, a neighbor began CPR on the infant and EMS personnel were able to get a pulse on the infant and she was later taken to Medical Center Hospital and later taken to a Lubbock hospital.

Authorities say an investigation revealed that both Rendi and Ember had care, custody and control of the one-month-old female and that a 10-year-old female was watching the one-month-old female along with four additional children during the time.

We’re told the investigation showed that the 10-year-old was left alone with the children from approximately 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Officers later executed a search warrant where all the children live and officers found multiple power sockets and light switches that were uncovered and had exposed electrical live wires in two separate rooms.

Police say a search warrant of Ember’s cell phone also showed texts between Ember and her mother, Rendi, indicating that both knew the 10-year-old would be watching the children unsupervised.

Rendi, who is the baby’s grandmother, and Ember, who is the baby’s mother, were taken into custody by Odessa Police on Thursday afternoon.
