Tax Free Weekend Brings Shoppers to Midland

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

The second day of tax free weekend was a busy one in Midland. Shoppers filled the stores to save some money. NewsWest 9 was in the middle of the madness at Midland Park Mall and talked with several shoppers. There were many families taking advantage of tax free weekend. The crowded stores didn't scare away shoppers, both young old, from scoring some good deals.

"Well I got some boots for the winter and I got a new backpack. It's ladybug with ears," said Sarai Escobar, a tax free weekend shopper.

For most shoppers, tax free weekend is all about getting the little ones ready to head back to school.

"Just lots of school clothes," said Jennifer, a tax free weekend shopper.
"Just look for clothes for my son and both of my kids and some relatives," said Phillip Sanders, a tax free weekend shopper.
"It's going well. We got some shirts for a cheap price," said Andrew Quesada, a tax free weekend shopper.

If you avoid tax free weekend because of the large crowds, many shoppers told NewsWest 9 it wasn't as hectic as expected.

"It's been pretty smooth. You know every single store that we've been into has been pretty easy to get in and out fairly quick," said Sanders.
"Actually I thought there was going to be a lot of people but it ran smoothly. We came in and out. There was not much waiting in line so that was nice," said Rhonda Perez, a tax free weekend shopper.

The mall staff has a tip to avoid the crowds but still hit all the great sales.

"I think if you have a plan when you come to the mall for tax free weekend that's awesome because you know what you need to get. You can visit the stores that you have in mind and then you can get your shopping done really efficiently," said Lyndsey White, Director of Marketing for Midland Park Mall.
"You kind of have to know where you're going and what you need before you get there," said Christine, a tax free weekend shopper.

Mall personal prepare weeks in advance for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

"For tax free weekend it is all hands on deck with the mall and with the retailers. There are so many people here this weekend. So we want to make sure that everything is in tip-top shape for a great tax free weekend experience," said White.
"Next year I hope Mom brings me back," said Escobar.

On Friday and Saturday of tax free weekend Midland Park Mall extends their hours from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 and on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
