Man Tries to Run From Odessa Police, Later Arrested


One man is behind bars after trying to run from Odessa Police.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they saw a black 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis traveling southbound in the 4100 block of Andrews Highway with an expired registration.

According to the report, a traffic stop was conducted in the 3800 block of Andrews Highway.

That’s when the driver got out of the vehicle and immediately began running westbound through the High Plains Apartment Complex.

The man was later caught and identified as Cornell Thomas, 37.

An investigation revealed that Thomas had a parole violation warrant and also had a previous conviction for evading arrest or detention.

Thomas was taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center and charged with evading arrest or detention with prior convictions.
