La Quinta Comes to Andrews Despite Drop in Oil Production

ANDREWS, TX (KWES) - Despite the drop in oil prices, Andrews will see their first chain-hotel. The La Quinta Inn & Suites is scheduled to be complete mid-September and the contracting company is confident they'll see plenty of business. Complete with 66 rooms, an indoor pool and fitness center, the La Quinta Inn and Suites will be the new kid on the block.

"Everything that La Quinta requires as far as what they call a prototype, we've brought all the plans up to the 2015 standards for La Quinta," said Guy Kincaid, manager of Rreaf Andrews, LLC. "We're pretty excited. It's going to be a nice property for this area."

The developers of the La Quinta Inn & Suites are anything but worried about the future of the hotel. We're told that that confidence comes from many years of experience in the area.

"Well, we've been there done that," Kincaid said. "We've been through the good, we've been through the bad. We know how to budget what we need to do and we're not afraid."

Wesley Burnett, Director of Economic Development in Andrews, says with oil production leveling out, the hotel industry should make it through.

"Weekends are tougher than weekdays," Burnett said. "The oil and gas, economy and work field and that sort of thing uses hotels during the week. Weekends are some of the bigger challenges. Hopefully, some of the sporting events will take care of that with some of the new hotels."

As for employment, Kincaid says the applications are pouring in.

"We've gotten probably 100 applications that we have to sit down, start interviewing and hire a staff."

Burnett says any new development to the city is a good thing.

"We're excited to have another opportunity, another option for travelers and for people that have family here and stuff like that," Burnett said. "We're always looking for more hotel rooms and the Chamber of Commerce works hard on that," said Burnett.
