MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - A Midland County inmate is dead and another person is now behind bars following a suspected drug overdose.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office tells NewsWest 9 that on Monday night, Sandy Franklin, 18, was taken to jail for two traffic warrants issued by the municipal court.

Franklin was booked into the Midland County Jail and placed in the female block.

By Wednesday morning, authorities say a guard noticed that Franklin was shaking and her eyes were red and unsteady.

According to the report, Franklin was taken to the medical department for treatment and an ambulance was called due to her condition.

Officials say Franklin admitted to swallowing a large amount of methamphetamine before being arrested.

While at the hospital, the father informed Sheriff Painter that the boyfriend of Franklin reported that she swallowed about four grams of methamphetamine.

Authorities say the municipal court was later notified and was released from custody and later died.

An autopsy into Franklin's death has been ordered.

The boyfriend of Franklin, Zane O'Neal, 22, later admitted to DEA Task Force agents that when he and Franklin were being stopped by Midland Police, he handed a zip lock bag of methamphetamine to Franklin and she swallowed the bag.
