Odessa Police Department Press Release

27-year-old Janae Denise Bernal

Odessa Police arrested Bernal on 7-27-15 at approximately 1613 hours for Burglary of a Habitation (Warrant) “2nd Degree Felony” and for sixteen outstanding misdemeanor warrants. While detectives were in the 2400 block of East 21st Street on an unrelated investigation, they made contact with a female subject, identified as Bernal.

Dispatch advised Bernal had seventeen outstanding warrants, including a felony warrant for burglary of a habitation. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Bernal was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

25-year-old Justin Cory Jones

Odessa Police arrested Jones on 7-27-15 at approximately 1530 hours for Possession of Methamphetamine “3rd Degree Felony”, Possession of Marijuana “Class B Misdemeanor”, Theft (Warrant) “Class B Misdemeanor”, and Possession of Marijuana (Warrant) “Class B Misdemeanor”. Officers responded to 2201 Rocky Lane Road (Madison Square Apartments) in reference to a suspicious person possibly selling drugs.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject matching the suspect’s description, identified as Jones. Officers searched Jones and discovered a bag of methamphetamine in his front right pocket. Jones was also found to be in possession of marijuana. A warrant check revealed Jones had two warrants for possession of marijuana and theft. Jones was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC.

20-year-old Jonathan Alexis Cortez

Odessa Police arrested Cortez on 7-28-15 at approximately 0919 hours for Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility “3rd Degree Felony” and Assault Causing Bodily Injury (Family Violence) “Class A Misdemeanor”. Officers responded to 2201 Rocky Lane (Madison Square Apartments) in reference to an unknown problem.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with an 18-year-old female who was shaking and crying. Officers observed bodily injury on her left arm. Officers also made contact with her boyfriend, identified as Cortez. Investigation revealed that after they got into an argument, Cortez assaulted his girlfriend, causing the injury on her arm.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Cortez was placed into custody and transported to the ECLEC. While at the jail, Cortez was found to be in possession of cocaine. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Cortez was charged and arrested accordingly.

19-year-old Dontea Derion George

Odessa Police arrested George on 7-28-15 at approximately 0630 hours for Possession of Marijuana – Gone off Bond (Warrant), a State Jail Felony. Officers observed two male subjects walking eastbound on 7th Street in the roadway. A warrant check revealed that one of the subjects, identified as George, had a felony warrant for possession of marijuana. George was charged and arrested accordingly.
