UPDATE: Man Killed in Midland Train Accident

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Paul Thompson, 61, of Midland was pronounced dead after a train accident Saturday afternoon.

Officials say, a Dodge truck was headed northbound on Carver and Front Street when he was struck by the train.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others both 54 years of age, were sent to Midland Memorial Hospital.

Officials say one of those passengers is in critical condition.

Officials say that the pickup, failing to control speed, approached the railroad crossing too fast to stop. The truck slid through the crossing gate and came to a stop on the tracks, and was struck by the train. Midland Police say that alcohol is also being investigated as a contributing factor.

Next of kin has been notified and the investigation continues.
