Odessa Man Accused of Choking Girlfriend

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - An Odessa man is behind bars on assault by strangulation charges following an incident on Wednesday night.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the High Plains Apartments in reference to a domestic disturbance.

As officers were responding to the scene, dispatch reported that the actor was a black male, wearing a white shirt and blue shorts.

When officers arrived, they saw a male subject matching the suspect's description walking through the apartment complex and he was later identified as Deon Watkins, 41.

An investigation revealed that after Watkins got into an argument with his girlfriend, police say he hit her in the face with a closed fist, threw her to the ground and choked her with his hands to the point she could no longer breathe.

Officers reported several injuries to the Watkins' girlfriend.

Watkins is behind bars at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on charges of assault by strangulation.
