Big Spring Man Accused of Breaking Into Church Buildings

A Big Spring man is behind bars after being accused of breaking into several church buildings.

Big Spring Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 1400 block of Lancaster in reference to an accident on Wednesday.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a wrecked van belonging to the First Church of The Nazarene and that the van struck a fence.

Officers later saw a broken glass door and a suspect inside the building.

The suspect, later identified as Douglas Paxton, 31, was taken into custody.

An investigation revealed that Paxton had broken into three buildings on the property and caused over $20,000 in damage.

Officials say Paxton also entered and operated two church vans and intentionally wrecked both of them.

Paxton has been charged with burglary and two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

More charges could be filed against Paxton in the future.
