Midland Chamber of Commerce Receives Accreditation Status

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

The Midland Chamber of Commerce reached a huge milestone on Tuesday.

They received accreditation status from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

There are more than 7,000 chambers in the United States and only three percent receive the prestigious status.

In order to receive this recognition, the Midland Chamber had to meet minimum standards in their operations and programs.

The application they filled out was complicated and long.

But the president of the chamber says they got it done and it was well worth it.

"We're an accredited chamber. It really means we have everything in place -- our policies, our program, our events. The things that we're doing have true value and that we're able to influence our community," said Bobby Burns, President and CEO of the Midland Chamber of Commerce.

Burns says there's only about 20 chambers in the state of the Texas that are accredited.
