Midland Man Accused of Assaulting Family Member

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

A Midland man remains behind bars for assaulting a family member during an argument.

41-year-old Michael Benavidez is being held on felony charges of assault with a previous conviction.

Officers were called out to a disturbance at a home in the 1600 block of North Terrell on Friday night.

When they arrived, the victim told police she had been arguing with Benavidez and he became violent.

According to the affidavit, he threw several items around the house, pushed her then slammed her head into ground multiple times.

He also broke the window of a vehicle and left the scene before police arrived.

Authorities caught up with him a short time later in the 400 block of East Golf Course.

He denied ever touching the victim and claimed that she threw things at him.

Benavidez is currently being held on a $25,000 bond.
