STERLING COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Another Life lost on our dangerous West Texas Roads. A Midland man was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon in Sterling County. State Troopers say 31 year old Brett Riggle was killed when his vehicle was struck by a driver going the wrong way. His friends and family are now coping with the tragic accident.
"It's almost as if we lost one of our own true family members. But then again he really was one of ours. He's been there for almost 20 years," said Kris Morrow, a childhood friend of Riggle.
He says Riggle was on his way home from Brownwood where he was visiting family during the 4th of July holiday. It happened on South Highway 158 just before 3:30 Sunday afternoon.
"It hasn't hit me fully yet. I can't imagine the world without him," said Morrow.
He told NewsWest 9, Riggle was his first friend when he moved to Midland at the age of 12.
"He brought a smile on everyone's face, everybody's face that really truly knew him. He was a great guy. He would go out of his way to help anybody and everybody he could no matter what, even if it meant ya know putting a little money out of his pocket to help you."
State Troopers say the driver that hit Riggle was not trying to pass when the deadly crash happened. The other driver was taken to the hospital with injuries. At this time there is no word on if any drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
"I want answers. I want to know what happened and I hope for the family's sake, on both parties, that no drugs or alcohol were involved with the other fellow."
