UPDATE: Escaped Inmate Apprehended in Midland

MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) - An inmate who escaped from the Midland County Detention Center has been apprehended.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, the inmate, who has been identified as Jose Guadalupe Lopez, 28, walked away from a work detail, took off his uniform and went to use a phone.

Some citizens in the area thought he looked like an escaped inmate and he was captured after a citizen on alert saw him hiding in some storage spaces.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, a patrol officer and a detective were nearby and were able to catch him following a brief foot chase.

We're told Lopez had warrants out of Midland County as well as El Paso County.

Lopez will also be charged with prison escape, which is a felony.

No injuries were reported in connection with the escape.
