Officials Asking Residents to Pop Fireworks Safely This Weekend

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

Plan on popping fireworks this weekend?

Midland officials want to lay down the rules.

You cannot pop them inside city limits.

If you get caught popping them or even having them on you, you could get a hefty fine of up to $2,000.

Officials will also take the fireworks away from you.

If you pop them in the county and the property doesn't belong to you, make sure you have written permission.

Officials say they're not trying to rain on your parade.

They just want people to be extra safe when having fun.

"Supervise your children, have fire protection equipment on site either buckets of water, sand, shovel in case a small fire break out then you can hopefully control it. But always, always call 911 if you have any kind of a fire start from the fireworks," said Midland Fire Marshal, David Hickman.

If you want to watch a fireworks show instead, there will be two on Saturday night.

One at Hogan Park and the other at the Security Bank Ballpark after the Rockhounds game.
