ODESSA, TX (KWES) - One woman is facing several charges following a shoplifting attempt on Sunday night in Odessa.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the Walmart on JBS Parkway in reference to a shoplifter.
When officers arrived, employees reported that they saw a female subject conceal items and exit the store without making any attempt to pay for them.
When the woman was questioned, she initially gave a false name but was later identified as Karrie Matile, 31 and she had her two and half year old daughter with her.
An investigation revealed that Matile had an outstanding warrant for her arrest and that she had multiple prior convictions for theft of property in Midland County.
According to the report, while officers were watching Matile's daughter, they saw her playing with an Altoids container and heard a rattling sound coming from the container.
Officers opened the container and found Xanax inside the container. Matile was unable to provide a valid prescription for the pills.
Matile was taken into custody and is facing charges of endangering a child, theft with at least two prior convictions, possession of a controlled substance, false identification-fugitive from justice and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
