ARTESIA, NM (KWES) - Oil and cleanup crews had to pick up a big mess at a well site in Artesia.
In the early morning hours of June 18, the Eddy County Sheriff's Office was called out to a well site belonging to Mewbourne Oil.
The report says Baker Hughes was preparing to frac at the site when two frac tanks full of Hydrogen Chloride (HCL) had a valve malfunction.
More than 64,000 gallons of diluted HCL was spilled.
Baker Hughes vacuumed up the product and then doused the remainder with soda ash and lime.
