IRAAN - The wife of a murder suspect in Iraan says the altercation happened during a fight in their home on Saturday morning. The Sheriff of Pecos County says that Julian Luna confessed to the crime after the stabbing that happened in the 700 block on Knifeton around 3:00 a.m.

Jasmine Leal, the wife of Julian Luna, said, "Ruben Salazar and his brother came by, they started problems with my husband, Julian, who was scared for his own life, our life. He didn't know what was going to happen with both of them being on him so he just reacted and that's what happened."

Ruben Salazar, 35, was rushed to Iraan General Hospital in a private vehicle where he later died.

Pecos County Sheriff, Cliff Harris, said, "He was stabbed twice, once in the back and once in the ribs. We understand that it punctured his lungs, we won't know for sure until we the autopsy report back."

NewsWest 9 spoke to Salazar's former employer, Jay Kent of Jay's Service Center, who say's he's still in shock about what happened.

"First thing Saturday morning about four o'clock in the morning, his (Salazar's) wife called me and I went with her to the hospital, and when I arrived he was already dead. It's surreal. It's kind of hard to believe that he's not here, today was a tough day for us, first day on the job without him," said Kent.

After confessing, Luna was arrested and is now facing murder charges with a $500,000 bond. His family informed NewsWest 9 that they are in the process of getting a lawyer. NewsWest 9 has not been able to get in touch with Ruben Salazar's family.
