REEVES COUNTY – One man was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital following a morning accident in Reeves County.
The accident happened around 6 a.m. Monday morning on U.S. Highway 285, about 25 miles north of Pecos.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, a big rig, driven by Robert Liberton of Georgia, was traveling south on Highway 285 and a GMC Pickup, driven by Darren Schafter of Oklahoma, was traveling north when for an unknown reason the GMC Truck went into the northbound lane of traffic and hit the back end of the big rig.
That caused the GMC truck to hit a Ford truck head on that was also traveling southbound.
The collision caused the Ford truck to burst into flames with the driver still inside.
The driver was airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock with major burns.
His identity has not yet been released.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
