ODESSA – One man is behind bars following an early morning stabbing in Odessa on Friday morning.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to Medical Center Hospital just before 2 a.m. in reference to a stab victim.
When officers arrived at the hospital, they identified the victim as Burk Williams, III, 48.
Williams told police that after he got into an argument with Javier Verzoza, 47, near 7th Street and Lee, Verzoza threatened to shoot him with a .38 caliber gun.
According to the report, Verzoza then pulled out a blunt tipped, long metal pair of scissors and attacked Williams while he was sitting on the ground.
We're told Williams received injuries to his left hand and left knee and was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
Officers later searched the area and found Verzoza in the 600 block of North Lee. He was later identified as the suspect involved in the stabbing.
Verzoza was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Verzoza is currently behind bars at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
