BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK - Several areas at the Big Bend National Park will be temporarily closed soon.

The areas that will be shut down includes the Cottonwood campgrounds, all but the first loop of the Rio Grande Village campground and the old Maverick Road back-country car camping sites.

The closures are set to begin on June 1.

Park officials will start lifting them on October 1 and expect all of them to be back open to the public by November 1.

We're told the closures are due to short-term staffing shortages.

Most of the park's facilities will remain open to the public, along with several alternative camping and activity areas.
