Man Arrested for Racing on a Highway in Odessa

ODESSA – One man is behind bars after several charges after he was caught racing in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, officers on patrol observed two trucks traveling at a high rate of speed in the 1700 block of East 8th Street.

A traffic stop was conducted on a white Chevrolet Silverado and a black Chevrolet Silverado.

An investigation revealed that both trucks had been traveling 77 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone.

The driver of the black Silverado, identified as Leonardo Samaniego, 21, was taken into custody for racing on a highway and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

The driver of the white Silverado was also taken into custody for racing on a highway but his name hasn't been released.

While at the jail, detention officers search Samaniego and located a bag of cocaine.

Samaniego has been charged with racing on a highway and prohibited substance in a correctional facility.
