MIDLAND – A long time Midland Drug Enforcement Agency fugitive returned to Midland after being apprehended in the Dominican Republic.
According to a press release from the Drug Enforcement Agency, Raymundo Jose Pina, 50, arrived in Midland in the custody of U.S. Marshals.
We're told Pina had been detained over six months ago in the Dominican Republic on DEA charges filed in the Western District of Texas in 2008 for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and conspiracy to smuggle bulk currency.
The reason for Pina's delay back to Midland was that the Dominican Republic wouldn't extradite Pina due to a health issue. That was recently waived and Pina returned to Midland.
