ODESSA: Odessa Police are investigating after a man allegedly sexually assaulted a 10-year-old little girl. NewsWest 9 has learned that this isn't the first time the man has been locked up for inappropriately touching a child.

"Odessa Police responded to Odessa Nice and Clean Laundromat located near Kermit Highway and Golder in reference to a sexual assault," said Steve LeSueur, with the Odessa Police Department.

The crime happened around 8:30 p.m. on Monday night. We're told a woman stepped inside the laundromat for just a few moments, leaving her young niece behind. That's when a man hopped inside the car, stole some cash and allegedly sexually assaulted the young girl.

Robert Dellinger,49, was the man inside the car. Shortly after the incident, Dellinger led police on a chase down Kermit Highway. We're told he was driving a stolen semi truck.

"The vehicle finally came to a stop near 32nd and Washington, at which point the driver exited to vehicle and immediately began to evade officers on foot," said LeSueur.

But officials eventually caught up, tased Dellinger and hauled him off to jail. LeSueur said the 10-year-old victim potentially saved her own life. The young girl reacted fast which got her aunt's attention inside.

"It was very smart of her to honk the horn in this case because it possibly could have saved her life or prevented further injuries from occurring," said LeSueur.

The alleged sexual assault is still under investigation. Dellinger is currently behind bars on several other felony charges. But NewsWest 9 did some digging of our own and found out that Dellinger has a criminal past. According to the DPS website, he's been a registered sex offender since 1984. The victim then was just 15-years-old.
