WINKLER COUNTY – One person is dead and four others were injured in a rollover accident in Winkler County on Sunday night.
The accident happened just before 9:30 p.m. on State Highway 18, about four miles south of Kermit.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, a 2001 GMC Yukon was traveling north on State Highway 18 and crashed into a deer on the roadway.
That's when the driver, Daniel Vargas-Diaz, 42, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle rolling multiple times.
A passenger in the vehicle, Rosanna Marie Vizcarra, 28, from Hobbs, New Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other passengers, Anahi Vizcarra, 7, was taken to Winkler County Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Deynina Sandoval, 10, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition and Junior Hernandez, 8, was also taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.
Vargas-Diaz was also taken to Winkler County Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
According to the report, several people including Rosanna Vizcarra, Deynina Sandoval and Junior Hernandez weren't wearing their seatbelt at the time of the accident.
