ODESSA – One man is behind bars on several charges after resisting officers and trying to take an officer's weapon.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, it all started Friday evening when officers responded to the 2800 block of Spur to assist an off-duty Odessa Police officer.
The off-duty officer reported that he saw a male subject, later identified as Jordan Wayne Williams, 23, commit an auto burglary on a blue Dodge Charger.
When officers arrived on the scene, they spotted a male subject matching the suspect's description in the front yard of a residence.
According to the report, officers yelled at Williams to stop but he evaded officers and ran inside of a residence.
Officers chased the Williams in fresh pursuit and Williams actively resisted arrest by pushing away from officers and pulling his arms away.
Officials say while the Williams was resisting arrest, an additional officer arrived and deployed his taser on the suspect in an effort to take Williams into custody.
However, that's when Williams reached out and grabbed the taser and tried to pull it away from the officers.
Officers were able to quickly throw the taser out of the residence so Williams couldn't obtain it.
Williams was eventually taken into custody and officers learned that he had a prior conviction for evading.
Williams has been charged with taking a weapon from a peace officer, resisting arrest, search or transport and burglary of a vehicle.
