Six Big Spring Employees on Paid Leave Following Blue Bell Listeria Outbreak

BIG SPRING – We have an update on a story NewsWest 9 reported over the weekend.

NewsWest 9 reported on Sunday that Blue Bell Creameries says it will lay off a third of its workforce following a halt in production due to a listeria outbreak.

We reported that six employees from the Blue Bell Plant in Big Spring were placed on leave without pay. However, Blue Bell Creameries tells NewsWest 9, those six employees have been placed on leave with pay.

Another 1,400 employees have been furloughed and will be receiving, "a substantial portion of their pay."

Production plants in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas have been closed since April.
