MIDLAND - Local auto body shops are still seeing an increase in customers after the storms last week. You would think hail damage would be a car owner's nightmare and an auto body shop's dream, but according to the manager at Platinum Collision Center that's not always the case. "It's a lot more than right now we can handle. Basically it's unfortunate for the consumer because now we just have to back it up.

We're still going to work on them but we now have to wait longer, they have to be without their vehicle longer or drive around with a lot of dents in it until we can get to it," Brett Cook, the operations manager at Platinum Collision Center, said.

Severe storms that rolled through Crane and Greenwood last week left a lasting impression on cars and even homes. Hail as big as baseballs dented hoods and roofs and even shattered windows.

"We've had some totaled where the damages have exceeded the value of the vehicle so now they're getting a new vehicle," Cook said.

Cook says business has doubled since the beginning of the week and have had more than 100 vehicles come in for hail damage in the last three days. Each repair can take up to two to three days depending on the size of the hail damage and how it will need to be fixed. With more storms in the future, he says there's not much they can do to prepare for the worst.
