Man Arrested For Impersonating an Officer in Odessa

ODESSA – An arrest has been made in connection with a man impersonating an officer in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, Joel Zubiate, AKA Joel Valenzuela, 23, was arrested on Tuesday morning just before 10 a.m.

Officials say that back on April 29, a 24-year-old male reported to Odessa Police that a Joel Zubiate-Valenzuela had come to his residence and told the man that the vehicle he recently purchased was stolen.

According to the report, Zubiate-Valenzuela was wearing a black polo shirt with “Police” in yellow lettering on the left front and across the back of the shirt.

Zubiate-Valenzuela told the man that he was a Detective with Odessa Police and the man believed he was an officer and handed over the vehicle title to Zubiate-Valenzuela.

Another witness also saw Zubiate-Valenzuela and he told her that he was “a detective in undercover.”
