ODESSA – Two men are behind bars following a drive-by shooting in Odessa on Wednesday morning.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, while patrolling the 4300 block of McKnight, officers observed a white GMC Sierra truck with its headlights dimmed and stopped in the middle of the road.
That's when officers heard several gunshots coming from the area of the GMC Sierra and dispatch reported several shots fired calls in the area of the GMC Sierra.
The officers conducted a traffic stop and police ordered the driver to put his hands through the window of the vehicle. The driver refused and attempted to evade officers eastbound on 46th Street.
The driver later stopped in the 4600 block of Sandra Lane and that's when the driver got out of the vehicle and began to run from officers on foot through a backyard.
The driver was later identified as Tommy Nguyen, 24 and was eventually caught after trying to run from officers for a second time. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Juan Domingues Hernandez, 22.
Officers began to search the vehicle where they found a Sig Sauer .40-caliber handgun underneath the driver's seat, along with multiple .40-caliber shell casings.
An investigation revealed that both men had shot the handgun out of the listed vehicle and that Hernandez was the owner of the handgun. Officers also found Xanax on both of the men and they were unable to provide prescriptions.
More .40-caliber shell casings were also found in the 4300 block of McKnight and multiple bullet holes on the west side of a residence in the 400 block of East 43rd Street.
Officers also learned that a homeowner was home with his family at the time of the drive-by shooting.
Nguyen has been charged with deadly conduct, evading arrest with a vehicle, possession of a dangerous drug, evading arrest or detention, unlawful carrying of a weapon and false identification.
Hernandez was charged with deadly conduct, unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of a dangerous drug.
