MIDLAND - Frightening moments overnight for a Midland apartment complex after a double-stabbing left one man dead and another in the hospital.

Investigators are still trying to piece together a motive and who is responsible.

Shortly after midnight on Thursday, Midland Police responded to a stabbing that happened at the Park Glen Apartments off Rankin Highway and I-20. Residents at the complex are still shaken up.

"It's been quiet around here and everything. Everything's been good and nothing's happened like this before," said a woman who lives at Park Glen, who wished to remain anonymous.

When the woman heard the news of the stabbing, the victim's names rang a bell.

"I was like, 'Oh my goodness! I went to the Boys and Girls Club with them!' It was so weird. I haven't seen them in years," she said.

Midland Police say 18-year-old Qualen Blake and Tevionn Coffield suffered from stab wounds. Blake was stabbed in the back and died shortly after at Midland Memorial Hospital. Coffield was stabbed twice in the chest and remains in stable condition.

The Park Glen resident can't believe her childhood friend is gone.

"He was really funny and nice. He was a really good kid," she said.

Blake's body was sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy. Meanwhile, police continue to search for answers.
