ODESSA - A group of veterans and proud gun in Odessa are doing their part to help people defend themselves. The rise in crime inspired their business.
It all started just months ago with an idea. Four veterans got together and thought, with this rise in crime in the Basin, why not share our knowledge of gun safety and home invasion defense with residents who are willing to learn?
"The more responsible gun owners out there, I honestly believe the safer we all are," said Robert Morris of F-Plan Tactical.
"Just like I tell people, it took me 15 years to hone my skills and to learn what I've learned in the military. I wasn't an expert the first day I was a day one private, so it takes time," said Thomas Rivera of F-Plan Tactical.
Many can purchase a gun to protect their home. But how many are properly trained in case of a dangerous situation?
"I have a few guns of my own. I've never shot and so I'd like to come out and learn about the safety techniques and proper techniques in using a gun," said participant in F-Tactical's gun safety class, Lynzy Sousley.
By popular demand, F-Plan Tactical of Odessa is teaching the fundamentals of gun safety. It expands from your basic handgun to precision rifles.
"It comes down to two things. What is being a responsible gun owner to us and what is being a gun owner to themselves. As long as they have the basic knowledge and the right training, we'll all be comfortable," said Morris.
Practice, they say, will keep the basics engraved in your mind. Gun training is not all they offer.
With the crime in our area, they'll even help re-enact a home invasion for you and your family. So you can be prepared for the unexpected.
"The basics is what it's all about. Learning the fundamentals and having that knowledge base. From there, the sky's the limit," Rivera said.
