Man Punches Odessa Officer During Incident

ODESSA – One man is in hot water after punching a police officer on Sunday morning.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 1200 block of Copus in reference to a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived on the scene, several people told them that the actor involved in the disturbance fled the scene on foot before police arrived.

Officers later spotted a man matching the suspect's description in the 2600 block of Park. He was identified as Jesus Rodriguez, 20, who was intoxicated.

Police say while officers were making contact with Rodriguez, he pushed an officer and closed fist punched the officer in the face, causing a small cut.

Rodriguez was immediately taken into custody by officers.

According to the report, while Rodriguez was in custody, he broke the back right door handle causing approximately $100 in damage.

Rodriguez has been charged with assault on a public servant, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and public intoxication.
