Man Charged With Murder Following Early Morning House Fire

MIDLAND - One man has been arrested for murder in connection with an early morning fire in Midland.

Midland Police tell NewsWest 9, Johnny Wayne Robertson, 50, is being held at the Midland County Detention Center for the charge of murder in connection with the death of 55-year-old Jennifer Sockey.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 700 block of North Lincoln Street around 1:20 a.m. Monday.

According to the report, while firefighters were searching the home, they found Sockey.

A dog inside the home was also found and taken to a veterinarian's office but was later euthanized due to severity of its injuries.

During the investigation, officers learned that Robertson lived at the home and there was a history of domestic violence between Robertson and Sockey.

Robertson admitted to police about setting the fire, left the home and knew that Sockey was inside.

Sockey's body has been taken to Tarrant County for an autopsy.

Bond for Robertson has been set at $1 million.
