Three People Arrested Following Incident in Odessa

ODESSA – Three people were arrested following an incident in Odessa early Wednesday morning.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they responded to The Palms Apartments in the 600 block of Expressway in reference to a lot of traffic in and out of an apartment that had a strong odor of marijuana coming from it.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw packaged marijuana through the doorway.

According to the report, officers also heard a gun being racked indicating loading of a round into a chamber as officers approached the apartment.

A search warrant was obtained and executed on the apartment.

After officers entered the apartment, they found a loaded handgun directly behind the front door.

Three people, Derick Shaw, 22, Alexandria Govan, 23, and Marcus Joiner, 23, were all immediately detained.

Officers searched the residence and found marijuana, digital scales, packaging, three cell phones and over $1,500 in cash.

A three year old child was also found in the apartment.

Child Protective Services was contacted and the child was released to a family member.

Shaw has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of marijuana.

Joiner was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana while Govan was charged with possession of marijuana.
