ODESSA - Odessa Crime Stoppers are looking for a man who went to several convenience stores up and down West University to use an ATM machine with a stolen debit card. Unfortunately for him, those kinds of stores have excellent surveillance cameras. It all started when a car was broken into and a wallet was taken, and then on March 26th, a man is seen on surveillance video using one of the stolen cards.
"The video we have is of the suspect who is actually caught on camera going into a convenience store transferring money from her debit card is what's happening here," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers said.
In the video, you can see a man in a Marilyn Monroe t-shirt go into a convenience store near the 7800 block of West University, which seems to be his normal stomping grounds as he did the same thing at several stores on this road. He walks into the back and transfers thousands of dollars using the ATM.
"It's really risky to use somebody else's debit card or try to use a debit card because there's so many things in place to keep that from happening," Rogers said. "This one happened to slip through the cracks and they were able to do some swapping of some funds with this."
We get a clear shot of the suspect's face when he walks out. So clear that it might as well be his mugshot.
According to the report, he went to Lowe's, Stripes, and Family Dollar to name a few. With so many security cameras, he might as well have walked into a camera store.
"The video is real clear, you know I think somebody will recognize him either by looking at his face or the clothes that he's got on or even possibly that tattoo," Rogers said.
