Weekend Felony Arrests by the Odessa Police Department - April 20, 2015

49-year-old Daniel Campos Llanez

Odessa Police arrested Llanez on 4-17-15 at approximately 2349 hours for Possession of Cocaine “State Jail Felony” and False Identification “Class B Misdemeanor”. While patrolling the 900 block of East Monahans, officers observed a male subject standing in the middle of the street.

A subject stop was conducted and the male subject gave a false name and date of birth to officers. Investigation revealed the suspect's real name was Daniel Llanez, date of birth 01/23/1966. Officers searched Llanez and discovered cocaine inside his pockets. Llanez was charged and arrested accordingly.

45-year-old Connie Byrd

Odessa Police arrested Byrd on 4-17-15 at approximately 2348 hours for Theft of Property with at Least two Prior Convictions, a State Jail Felony. Officers responded to 4210 North JBS Parkway (Wal-Mart East) in reference to a female subject who was detained for shoplifting.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Wal-Mart personnel, who advised they observed a female subject select groceries and apparel and exit the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Officers made contact with the suspect, identified as Byrd. Dispatch advised Byrd had multiple prior convictions for theft.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Byrd was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. All of the stolen merchandise, valued at approximately $597, was returned back to Wal-Mart.

21-year-old Norlan Flores

Odessa Police arrested Flores on 4-18-15 at approximately 2355 hours for Possession of Cocaine, a State Jail Felony. Officers observed a white 2005 Honda Accord traveling northbound in the 1600 block of North Grant with a defective headlamp. A traffic stop was conducted on the listed vehicle and the driver was identified as Flores.

Officers searched Flores and discovered cocaine inside his pockets. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Flores was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. The cocaine was turned into criminalistics.

28-year-old Justin Roper

Odessa Police arrested Roper on 4-18-15 at approximately 1501 hours for Theft of Property “State Jail Felony” and for two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Officers responded to Jack Jordan's BBQ (1501 North JBS Parkway) in reference to a recovered stolen trailer.

The owner of the stolen trailer advised dispatch that they observed their trailer being towed by a black Toyota Tundra. The owner of the trailer followed the Tundra to the area of Grandview and the East Loop 338 until OPD caught up to them. A traffic stop was conducted on the listed vehicle.

The driver of the listed vehicle reported that they did not know the trailer was stolen and advised that a Justin Roper had been in possession of it. ECSO deputies and DPS troopers made contact with Roper in Gardendale. OPD detectives responded to Gardendale and interviewed Roper.

Investigation revealed that Roper had asked the driver of the Tundra to tow the stolen trailer for him. The driver of the Tundra was unaware that the trailer was stolen. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Roper was charged and arrested accordingly.

55-year-old Eddie Arnold Hernandez

Odessa Police arrested Hernandez on 4-18-15 at approximately 2007 hours for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More, a 3rd Degree Felony. Officers observed a white 2012 Dodge Ram fail to maintain a single marked lane while traveling eastbound in the 3000 block of East I-20. A traffic stop was conducted in the 10500 block of East I-20 and the driver was identified as Hernandez.

While making contact with Hernandez, officers could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Hernandez was placed into custody for driving while intoxicated after failing field sobriety tests. Investigation revealed Hernandez had three prior convictions for driving while intoxicated. Hernandez was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Midland County Jail.

26-year-old Raul Acosta, Jr.

Odessa Police arrested Acosta on 4-18-15 at approximately 0340 hours for Assault by Strangulation (Family Violence) “3rd Degree Felony” and Public Intoxication “Class C Misdemeanor”. Officers responded to the 1500 block of North Tom Green in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 29-year-old female, who advised a family member had choked her. The victim reported that she tried to help Acosta because he was intoxicated inside of a vehicle, which was parked in the driveway. The victim reported that Acosta grabbed her and placed her in a choke hold using his forearms.

The victim reported that she could not breathe and advised that Acosta continued to squeezing, placing her in fear for her life. Officers observed bodily injury around the victim's neck. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Acosta was charged and arrested accordingly.

68-year-old Farid Yahia-Chikh

Odessa Police arrested Yahia-Chikh on 4-19-15 at approximately 2119 hours for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More, a 3rd Degree Felony. While officers were working two different crashes in the 1700 block of North County Road West, a black 2005 Kia went around a marked patrol unit and proceeded northbound.

Officers used their flashlights to signal for the driver of the listed vehicle to stop but it continued northbound. Officers knocked on the window and asked to speak with the driver but he just sat there and looked at officers. The driver of the listed vehicle eventually opened the door and stepped out.

The driver of the listed vehicle was identified as Yahia-Chikh. While making contact with Yahia-Chikh, officers could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Yahia-Chikh was placed into custody for driving while intoxicated after failing field sobriety tests.

Investigation revealed Yahia-Chikh had multiple prior convictions for driving while intoxicated. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Yahia-Chikh was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
