HOBBS, N.M. - A standoff investigation in Hobbs is now in the hands of New Mexico State Police.
Gunfire erupted at the Rex Arms Apartment Complex on Corbett Street on Tuesday night.
Police tell NewsWest 9, it all started when officers went to execute a search warrant at an apartment that a male and female were inside of.
As Task Force officers breached the door of the apartment, a male subject fired a rifle at the officers.
That's when the officers discharged their weapons back at the male subject.
There's no word on how the situation escalated but the standoff lasted more than six hours.
Authorities tell NewsWest 9, the suspect and the female are in custody.
Officials have not released his identity.
Hobbs Police, SWAT and the Lea County Sheriff's Deputies were all on scene.
