BIG SPRING - Monday was re-opening day for Big Spring's Social Security Office, although not at the usual location.
You will recall that the main office building underwent severe damage when a pickup slammed into the building's front on FM 700. The vehicle was traveling at such a high rate of speed that it ended up right in the middle of the office, and causing substantial damage March 19. The building was not occupied during the night time accident, so no office workers were harmed. No one else was seriously hurt, though the two occupants of the vehicle were eventually arrested.
Repairs are still ongoing at the FM 700 Social Security office location, but the public can now see SS representative face-to-face at their temporary location, at the West Texas Opportunities building, 2001 Scurry. They are seeing clients two days a week at the location, Mondays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There has been no date announced at this time for when the offices can re-locate back to the FM 700 location.
