ODESSA – An Odessa man is behind bars on several charges following an early morning incident on Wednesday.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, officers observed a white 2000 Lincoln failing to stay in a single marked lane and almost hit a curb on 8th Street.
The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver evaded officers.
During the chase, the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Carlos Gaona, threw a 24 ounce can of beer out of the window with the intent to conceal or destroy evidence.
The vehicle finally came to a stop in the 1200 block of East 8th Street and Gaona refused to get out of the vehicle after receiving several commands.
Gaona eventually got out of the vehicle and according to the report, officers could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.
Gaona was taken into custody for driving while license suspended with prior convictions and for driving while intoxicated.
Gaona has been charged with evading with a motor vehicle, tampering with physical evidence, driving while intoxicated, driving while license invalid with prior convictions and for four outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
