ODESSA - "It's not everyday you see a truck in your showroom," Raphael Gonzalez, the general manager of Buddy's Home Furnishings said.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Easter Sunday, Gonzalez got a call saying a vehicle hit his store, but it turned out to be worse than he ever expected.
"I was expecting a car outside but when I drove up the car was actually all the way in," Gonzalez explained.
So on Monday morning, the cleanup process began. Shattered glass, broken bricks, and wood paneling covered the floor after a suspected drunk driver, 24-year-old Jose Bermeo, crashed his truck into the building, completely ripping poles out of the cement and sending dust flying throughout the store.
"It went all the way to about right here," Gonzalez said pointing to the damage. "To the edge of right there, almost hit that pole."
Cameras inside captured the moment the truck sped through, with police showing up shortly after.
According to the report, Bermeo crashed into another car before crossing three lanes of traffic and hitting the building.
"When he hit that car he probably grazed it and it shot right in here because you look outside and there's no skid marks at all," Gonzalez said.
The store says some of the furniture was damaged and repairs will cost them thousands of dollars.
"All of this is pretty much about--I would say 40 to 50 feet of damage," Gonzalez said. "We're going to have to replace all of this, plus the unit and plus all of the ceiling and electrical repairs."
