ODESSA: There's been a huge increase in aggravated robberies in Odessa. Police said at least one is happening every single day. In fact, there were six reported just this past weekend. The reason? Well, that's still unclear.

"It's unknown if it's a direct relation to the recent mini-bust we have been experiencing with the drop in the price of oil, but it's unknown why there has been a recent surge," said Steve LeSueur, with the Odessa Police Department.

Odessa Police said most of the robberies are happening at night while people are sitting in their cars, not aware of their surroundings.

"Someone will come up to them and display a pistol and steal their vehicle," said LeSueur.

If you do become a victim of aggravated robbery, police said it's best to just comply but know your rights.

"If someone displays a pistol at you or they do rob you, you do have a right to defend yourself," said LeSueur.

Police want to slow down this growing crime and they're urging people to report anything unusual.

"If someone does see a suspicious person or suspicious activity, just call and report it immediately. It's those kind of calls that can lead to arrest and prevent other more serious crimes from occurring," said LeSueur.
