Officer Injured During Shots Fired Incident in Big Spring

BIG SPRING – A Big Spring Police Officer was injured during an incident on Sunday morning.

Big Spring Police tell NewsWest 9, two officers were at Sugars Bar on East Interstate 20.

We're told the officers were in the parking lot and attempted to contact the driver of the vehicle that was driving reckless.

According to the report, the vehicle stopped and as officers approached and contacted the driver but the driver accelerated and ran over one of the officer's feet.

Officials say the vehicle nearly struck another vehicle as officers tried to get him to stop on foot.

That's when several shots were fired at the vehicle as it fled the scene on the South Service Road of Interstate 20.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Interstate 20 near Highway 350.

We're told the injured officer was treated and released from the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle hasn't been located at this time.

Big Spring Police have requested the Texas Rangers and they will be handling the investigation.

No other information has been released.
