Man Found Dead in Lincoln National Forest

EDDY COUNTY, N.M. – A man was found dead in the Lincoln National Forest on Thursday afternoon.

The Eddy County Sheriff's Office tells NewsWest 9, detectives responded to Queens in the Lincoln National Forest in reference to an unresponsive male subject.

According to the report, a forest service technician was on routine patrol when he discovered the male subject, later identified as 28-year-old Chance Ortiz.

We're told that contact was made with Ortiz but the subject was unresponsive with no vital signs.

A volunteer med unit arrived on the scene and also checked Ortiz for any vital signs but there weren't any vital signs.

Officials say that family members had reported Ortiz missing on April 1, 2015 and he was last seen on March 31, 2015 and told the family he was going to Wal-Mart but never returned.

The report states that the cause of death is undermined at this time and the case is still under investigation.
