ODESSA - Vet bills for the dog shot by Odessa Police officers will be covered by the city.

Police officials say this is protocol.

Anytime damage is done during a call by police, it is paid for by the city.

That applies to the dog that was shot as well.

A black lab was shot by officers who were checking out an alarm call last week.

Those officers say the dog charged them.

They were both cleared of any wrongdoing.
