ODESSA – One man is behind bars on several charges following a hit and run accident in Odessa on Thursday morning.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 7600 block of Tres Hermanas Boulevard in reference to a hit and run.
An investigation revealed that a white Lincoln Mark hit the back of a blue 2011 Nissan Maxima in the 5000 block of East University.
The driver of the Nissan told police that the driver of the Lincoln vehicle fled the scene and the driver of the Nissan followed the other driver to the Lamesa Gardens Apartments.
When officers arrived at the apartments, they made contact with the driver, who was identified as 27-year-old Lorenzo Delgado.
According to the report, as officers were talking with Delgado they could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.
Delgado was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated after failing field sobriety tests.
Officers later searched Delgado's vehicle and found over 16 grams of cocaine along and over $20,000 in cash. Digital scales with cocaine residue were also found.
Delgado has been charged with manufacturing or delivery of cocaine, tampering with physical evidence, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
