ODESSA – An Odessa elementary school sheltered in place on Thursday afternoon.
Ector County ISD officials tell NewsWest 9, the shelter in place was put into effect after reports of hearing gunshots in the neighborhood west of Cameron Elementary.
Authorities were unable to find anyone or anything in connection with the shots and the shelter in place was later lifted.
The school spent about 15 minutes under shelter in place.
Shelter in place is a precautionary measure taken when something is happening near the school that could impact the campus. Everyone who is outside the school building is moved inside and the doors are locked and monitored. Inside, all activities go on as scheduled.
